The Future of Personalized Medicine and the Diagnostics Industry: A Keynote Interview Featuring Former Fortune Editor-in-Chief Clifton Leaf With Labcorp’s Brian Caveney

On December 1, 2023, one of the nation’s most accomplished journalists and patient advocates, Clifton Leaf, will take the stage at the Annual Personalized Medicine Conference to conduct a keynote interview with Labcorp Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Brian Caveney.

Mr. Leaf, a cancer survivor and author of the 2014 book titled The Truth in Small Doses: Why We’re Losing the War on Cancer — and How to Win It, will interview Dr. Caveney at a moment characterized by both opportunities and challenges for the diagnostics industry and personalized medicine.

Recent industry estimates suggest that despite longstanding reimbursement challenges, the number of molecularly based tests on the United States market has grown to include more than 140,000 diagnostic offerings. By targeting the right preventive and treatment interventions to the right patients at the right times, molecular diagnostics are making medicine more effective and efficient for everyone.

But an uncertain economic outlook this year has depressed many diagnostics company valuations.

And industry players are divided over the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s desire to regulate a broader swath of laboratory-developed tests, including many that help make personalized medicine possible.

Speaking from his vantage point as a physician-executive responsible for overseeing the scientific and medical practices of a large clinical laboratory, Dr. Caveney will consider the future of the diagnostics industry’s commitment to personalized medicine in shifting economic and political environments. He will also share his perspective on the issues shaping the future of the field.
